Chapel Hill
We ate at what I believe is the original Allen & Son on Hwy 86 outside Chapel Hill the other night and it was so-so. It was my first full meal after running the Richmond marathon and I was stoked to have some tasty BBQ and fried chicken but was disappointed to find that Allen & Son don't serve fried chicken. Furthermore the combo plates don't come with a choice of sides so I was forced to eat my pulled pork and brunswick stew with cole slaw and hush puppies (I would have preferred to at least try their fried okra). The pork was not very uniformly pulled and it tasted more like it had been cooked in a crock pot with liquid smoke than properly smoked. The BBQ sauce is good and seems to have some fat in it so it's served warm. We did buy a dog bone for Jackson there for just a buck
